Does anyone know any b/p meds that does not cause impotence. I am taking an Alpha blocker and am afraid to take Viagra and such because I don't want to faint. However, I am seeing my Dr in a week or so and will TELL him that I don't want to take Alpha blockers. I am also weaning myself off of Toprol from 100mgs to 25mgs and I feel incredibly better. So I would like to be able to have a little fun. Pop a Viagra and not worry about fainting, wouldn't that be something dreadful.
Thanks

sandy,
The medical jargon is that the ACE inhibitors and the ARB (angiotensin receptor blockers) are not deleterious to a man's potency. Also that IF you take a diuretic, Lasix (furosemide) causes only 25% of the problems that thiazide does.
That's what the books say anyway.
Personally, I think that ANY hypertensive has the potential of causing impotence.
The only serious problems with sildenafil, tadalafil and vardenafil will come with coadministration of nitrates/nitrites...that combo can KILL. With an alpha-blocker and other antihypertensives you might see some postural hypotension...dizziness when standing up fast...but nothing too serious.
WORST drugs for erectability are the beta-blockers.
Try an ACE inhibitor and see how your react. (Maybe you won't cough your head off!)

Wssandy,
I am on an ACE inhibitor and a beta blocker and use Viagra without problems. My experience is that any heart or blood pressure drug can cause sexual issues, as can high blood pressure by itself. Have you tried Viagra or Cialis and felt faint?

Hi Gojoe,
Do you get faint or dizzy while you are on Viagra or Cialis?
Thanks,
Michael
