Still in considerable pain but I have to say...it only hurts when I walk! Meant with humor, of course. The pain is bearable and I have to say a better alternative than the agony I was experiencing for years with each and every step. Have to admit this is the first time I have been glad I live in a small apartment rather than a big house; makes for less walking. Am in surprising good mental spirits and it feels like an elephant has been lifted from my head. No sign of infection or fever and that is good. Decorated my cane with all kinds of palm tree and beach scene stickers as a reminder of how wonderful it will be finally to be able to walk barefoot in the sand and go into the water because I won't have to be wearing men's huge sneakers and orthodics. Still a newbie at all this and hardly in a position to give advice to anyone but I can honestly say I am so happy I overcame my fears and had the surgery done and would support and encourage anyone considering foot reconstruction. It opens up a whole new world of possibilities. Glad to have you all rooting for me. It helps!
