I am currently 8 weeks pregnant. About 3-4 months ago I was diagnosed with errosive esophagitis and prescribed protonix, which helped immensely.
Well after we decided to have another baby, I stopped the med. and all was ok. But now im experiencing somethings that I wasnt when I went to the doctor.
I started having gassy like "discomfort" in my right side under my ribs. Then it started on the left side a few hours later. It comes and goes and sometimes I can feel it in my upper back and sometimes it is a crampy feeling as well. Like tonight , I felt the crampiness in my right upper back, then 10 secs later I felt it in my right upper rib area.
Not sure what it is but I was ok'ed to start back on my prtonix but I get soooo scared about more serious things that it has me in a foul mood just thinking about it.
I saw my doctor and while he ONLY listened to my symptoms...he said "it could be this or that...dont worry, youre fine!" I would love to relax but cant. Any advice?
~TIA!

Hi,
Sorry for your problems. It could be from your pregnancy. I also suffered very strange symptoms while pregnant. I also suffer from this discomfort that you describe. For me it will go from the left rib area, sometimes my breast, to the right rib area into my upper back and occasional stabbing pains in my ribs. I have been told from my GP that it is anything from an inflammation of the rib cage (costochondritis) to GERD to gas pockets. I had a c-section 1 year ago and I havent been the same since. I have a constant feeling of a balloon in the upper part of my body which just goes in random directions. At first I thought it was my heart but after many tests and doctor visits this wasnt the case. Now the doctor just thinks Im just crazy and wants to put me on anti-depressants. It is really rought when a doctor doesnt want to listen and your symptoms are very real and a big annoyance. Let us know if you find out anything.

Do you have any heartburn or acidy taste in your mouth when you get this side pain?Does the side pain ever feel like pressure and a continuous gnawing pain?Does it usually start on the right side ,and seem to spread to the left side too?And even sometime to the back.It could be gerd or ibs or even h.pylori.Just my 2cents worth.
