Ok. for the past year, Ive eaten clean and healthy, low sodium diet, exercise a lot(run/jog 20-25 miles a week). I exercise almost everyday, sometimes twice a day. Im positive I have white coat hypertension. I am 25 yrs old. Dont drink or smoke. Whenever I go into the Dr. Office, My BP is like 170/100 heart rate 98 bpm. body fat of around 9-11%. I dont really have any history of hypertension in my family. My dad was diagnosed with it at age 58 yrs old

In the past I used eat fast food everyday, 2-3 times a day, smoked cigs a lot, drank 3-4 beer almost everyday and was a very joyful person. 2 years ago I went to the Doctors and my BP was 130/90, I was very anixous. and Doctors treated me like crap and so did the nurses about my BP readings, So as I started cutting down on the junkfood, smoking, drinking and exercising...over the next two years my bp would go from 140,150,160, to 170 at the Doctors office after completely changing my lifestyle and losing 25 lbs.

I have always been nervous about my BP, even when I was younger i would sometimes get a normal high reading at the drug store of around 130-140/80-90.

I got a home monitor, and i have been using it to monitor my blood pressure for the past year and average readings are 119/74, and 55bpm. I even used my friends monitor to make sure mine was ok and it was normal high as i was a bit nervous. I do have a bit of anxiety and I just started getting treatment for it since last week. It has helped a little.

But my questions is, what do you think I should do whenever I go the Docs to try to get a lower readings. and With extreme white coat like this, do you think I should go on a low dose med, I refuse to take beta blockers because I would have no excerise tolerance. my father at age 58 to get high blood pressure around the 140s/80-90 is normal, do you think it could be heritary?

Thanks guys

Then consider 119/74 YOUR blood pressure and ignore any readings in the doctor's office.

Don't medicate merely to please your doctor if you know you don't need it. Unfortunately there is NOTHING a white coater can do to bring the numbers down in a doctors office. The harder we try, the more anxious we become, and the more the numbers soar. Keep a daily log of your BP readings with calculated monthly averages and bring it in to show him at every visit. And DON'T let him monopolize your valuable appointment time droning on and on about hypertension...it's YOUR dime!

yeah i hate going to the Doctors, I want to dicuss a specific problem other than blood pressure, and the whole he keeps telling me he is worried about my results.

Sometimes i worry that my readings are not accurate with my home monitor.
but I used a friend's monitor and got the same readings.

I cant seem to stop thinking about this white coater, MY father getting High BP at age 58 wouldnt be genetic related or would it or is it a consequence of getting older?
