Hi there, i have come on these forums for some advice please.

my wife is insulin dependent and 12 weeks pregnant, we have been for the down syndrome scan and everything was fine, however they commented on her levels because they are averaging about 7 but need to be under 6. Which is understandable but extremely hard to maintain.

My wife is concerned / nerved because she has never met another diabetic who has given birth or been pregnant. Im sure there are thousands of uncomplicated diabetic pregnancys every year but all you seem to read about is doom and gloom cases on the internet!

i was just after a bit of reassurance, advice and tips for her sake really, i would be gratefull for you help.

Just wondering if your wife was insulin dependant before she got pregnant, or does she have gestational diabetes? Either way, I have met people who have been pregnant with diabetes and done just fine. She definitely has to follow strict dietary guidelines, but I have heard of many sucessful births to women who are diabetic. A little more tricky perhaps, but don't let that take the joy out of this wonderful experience. Congratulations!!

She's been insulin dependent since the age of 13 and shes now 26. I think its just the fact thats shes never met anyone who had diabetes and pregnant before unsettles her a bit.
