I just found out that although the laboratory reference range for leptin is 0.5 to 12.5 ng/Dl my values were over 155 ng/Dl.

Anyone have any thoughts on causation.

I have done some reading and I don't believe that there is a firm relation between leptin levels causing obesity. There is evidence that leptin levels are based on the amount of body fat. So, higher levels of body fat means higher levels of leptin in your system. I didn't see anything about a relationship between the level and the amount of body fat either. Leptin is also released by other parts of the body.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. I would worry more about taking care of yourself in every way that you can. Watch what you eat, how much exercise you get, and your blood sugars.

Anyone have any thoughts on causation. The reason for my concern is that while normal males would have up to 12.5 on their test results and obese, diabetic males might have results of up to 40 or perhaps even 50 in an extreme case, my results were over 155. This is a staggeringly high value and is quite literally off the charts when I look at the various studies and their accompanying graphs.

Ron Rosedale has a lot to say about Leptin and how it works to control appetite and metabolism. Apparently, you can become resistant to Leptin, in the same way as you can become insulin resistant. Google "Leptin Rosedale" to find more info.

Cheers,

Mark :)
