hi,
my girlfriend was diagnosed with a malignant carcinoid tumor 3 days ago. we think she's had it for awhile and it's metastisized to her liver. she's supposed to have surgery for it soon. will that cure it? has anyone had any experience with this?

I had appendical carcinoid tumor 1 1/2 years ago. Luckly it had not spread and they were able to remove the appendix and therefore the tumor. There are a few really great websites out there that you can specify carcinoid tumor message boards and get some really good information. Go to the doctor with her if you can so that you can process the information with her when you are finished. I wish you both the best of luck and keep me posted if you can.

hi,
thanx for your reply. her's is in her small intestine which is very rare for a female. her appt. with the surgeon was yesterday and they're checking her liver to see if it's metastisized. if so he's sending her to a specialist in the city coz no one here is qualified to do that kind of surgery. she has the carcinoid syndrome and the biopsy was malignant so we think it might b in her liver. but that's still operable too they say. the surgeon says he's done surgerys on carcinoid tumors for 10 yrs now and none of them were malignant but her biopsy showed that it was. if it hasn't moved to her liver then her surgery is on the 24th.

How did they find out that she had carcinoid? Did she go in because of the symptoms she was having from the syndrome? Did they find it doing regular blood work up? How many actual carcinoid surgerys has the doctor done? Its very hard to find a specialist in carcinoid, there are some excellent ones out there but few in comparision to all the other doctors and specialist out there. Where are you located? Which doctor/city is she going to? Good luck, I will be thinking of you both!

the only thing that showed her tumor was her biopsy during the colonoscopy. and yes she does have the carcinoid syndrome. has had it for about 4 mos. now. if it's in her liver she's going to be sent to a specialist in oklahoma city, we live in tecumseh, if not then the surgeon in shawnee is gonna do it.i don't know how many carcinoid surgerys he's done but he kinda sounds like an idiot to me, as most drs. around here are. i drive 30 mins. out of town to go to my dr. i don't want it to b in her liver but i want them to send her to the city newayz. thanx,
