Ramsfanattic 07-10-2003, 08:29 PM I had gall bladder surgery in March of 2003. Ever since then, I have steadily gained weight. Does anyone know about weight gain caused from the removal of the gall bladder? Thank you. Sponsor Harry 07-11-2003, 12:52 AM Yes-- It's caused by eating things that you could eat before. Removing gallbladder usually does not cause you to gain weight!!! Katie G 07-11-2003, 08:51 AM Hi there - Harry's right. The weight gain is because you can eat normally again without expecting an "attack." I lost about 30 lbs. before my GB was finally removed because I couldn't stand to eat with everything causing intense pain. Once the GB was out, I could ANYTHING, and by doing so, started gaining all the weight back and then some. If weight gain is a concern, limit calories and start exercising. The absence of a gall bladder does not automatically cause weight gain; it's what we eat that does. Katie G jeepgirl 07-30-2003, 03:47 PM I beg to differ here. I eat as healthy, if not healthier since my gall bladder surgery, and the pounds are piling on. I am also experiencing major water weight gain, that causes my entire body to swell up. I workout 3-5 times a week, doing high-intensity spin classes, and weight training. I avoid sugars, flour, starches, and watch my salt and fat intake. My diet consists of lean meats (chicken, fish, lean beef) and vegetables. I drink at least a gallon of water a day. I have been to the endocrinologist, cardiologist, gynocologist, and no one can tell me whats going on. The post operative sonogram showed everything to be normal. OBVIOUSLY this isnt normal. Everything was fine before the gall bladder was removed. [This message has been edited by jeepgirl (edited 07-30-2003).] |
