I hope that someone can answer this question for me. When someone has herpes I know that they can no longer have sex without protection...even when they do not have an outbreak, they can still pass the disease on to others. So my question is this, how do people with herpes have children? Do they have to have in-vitro? I'm sorry if this sounds dumb. Thanks if anyone could help me out.

I'm not trying to give bad advice but I think that a lot of married couples just take their chances and just avoid sex during obvious OBs and many manage to keep the uneffected partner from getting herpes. Remember a condom is only about 50% effective anyway! Of course if you are rich you could try invitro but for most of us that's not an option. But if you are wanting to start a family you'll have to take your chances...I mean would you not kiss someone that's had cold sore(herpes!)?...that's kinda the sacrifice you make when you decide to pursue a relationship with someone that has herpes...you have to be willing to catch the virus which is not the end of the world anyway...millions of people have it and don't even know they do. Also a couple that gets together and one knows they have herpes and the other assumes that they do not needs to have the person that assumes they don't have herpes tested because herpes most of the time just sits dormant and never even causes outbreaks so many many people have it and assume they don't because they've not had an outbreak before...just because someone hasn't had the assumed blisters of herpes doesn't by any means mean they are herpes free!!!!!!! Some new stats suggest that as many as 50% of the college aged adults in the us have genital herpes.
