Can anyone explain to me why some people can get on with HC yet others need pred. It doesn't seem to be related to the severity of the adrenals...or?

Robin,

Prednisone stays in the system longer than HC, so less highs & lows than with HC. Some people metabolize meds faster so need a longer lasting steriod. Some endos just start people on prednisone so that is what they stay on. I prefer prednisone, but take HC as it is like the cortisol a normal body produces. I was on prednisone for a long time, then used it only in the summers. Now I only use it for illness stress dosing (not often) as it is better for inflammation.

By taking HC in smaller doses more often, there are no real noticeable highs & lows.

I have hypoT plus weak adrenals. Can't tolerate my armour even though I'm taking 35 mg HC. Some have suggested that I need to switch to pred. - that I need something stronger. Has anyone found this to be the case?
