View Full Version : Having difficulty with asthma and anxiety

Hi everyone,

I have both mild asthma and anxiety problems. I find that sometimes i do not know if its my anxiety or asthma causing breathing discomfort

I feel like i need to take big sighs alot and my back starts to ache and tighten and feel weird if i don't. sighing or yawning relieves it temporarily for like a few seconds or minutes. It pretty much happens alot, sometimes i have to fight to make it feel like a deep enough breath like satisfying enough.

sometimes its easier but its something that bothers me daily, and often.

the ventolin and flovent i've been on for a week and a bit seem to help a bit but not this symptom. They make it easier to get air in but this still bothers me. alot. I am afraid to talk to my doctor because anything with anxiety she tends to start thinking i am just anxious and stupid.

the yawning and sighing is constantly a problem. as tho im struggling to get enough air into my lungs to feel a deep satisfying breath. At times i can get the breath's more easily and at times its a struggle.

I just did a methacholine challange test and was diagnosed with asthmatic lungs.
I am upset because i don't feel my medications i got for asthma are helping my frequent sighing and yawning and i have no idea how to tell when to take the asthma medications, or if i have two seperate conditions, or if I don't have asthma, or if I do and this is just part of it and I am not on the right medications... AUGHHHH! When I exercise I get very short of breath and the inhaler seems to help THAT but not my yawning and sighing issue.

Someone please help me I don't know wat to do. I was relieved when I was diagnosed with something other than anxiety finally but I am feeling worried that maybe its still not the answer.

today i was really anxious because of probs with my boyfriend, and i had to ues my inhaler 3 times when usually i only use it every other day or so since i've gotten it. I felt so out of breath and like i could not breathe deeply or sigh deeply enough, it was so horrible. after using it it was barely different :( i could breathe but still i have to try to take deep breaths and my back ached
I am so stressed about this someone pls help!!!

hi there,

i had a test last year but mabe i should get another one. Does the test have a specific name?

What symptoms do you get with i? I do have a bit on my back now and then ,nothing serious but a bit.. and i have slightly restless legs.

I suffer from anxiety too and I can tell you I definitely sigh more and I just saw a new pcp and he said an anxiety attack can bring on an asthma attack. The yawning I'm not sure about. It probably is worth checking out other things but I'm wondering how are you dealing with your anxiety. Perhaps an antianxiety med may help and decrease some of those symptoms?

hey dazed,

thanks for your reply :)

I noticed the day I felt really bad, the day i made the post it was very humid outside and my symptoms were alot worse.

I found the lst two days to not be as severe. Im thinking maybe when its humid my asthma increases or maybe i was anxious. its so hard for me to know because i dont get alot of typical asthma symptoms, i only feel short of breath and uncomfortable and aware of my breathing. I dont wheeze, cough only a bit and i don't get chest tightness unless im exposed to a hardcore allergen like fresh cut grass or high dust and stuff like that.
So its so hard for me to figur eit out. I havent had to use my puffer again for 2 days. but the day before those 2 days i had to use it 3 times in one day!

arggggggg

I'm thinking humidity gives me sob that goes away when I get in AC but I'm paying attention to ozone alerts to see if that's what is enough to make me use the inhaler.
