Hi Everyone

I am new to this board. I happened to stumble across it while looking for information online. I have had anxiety problems on and off for several years now. Over the last few months it has not seemed to ease up as it has in the past. Several people have suggested that i talk to someone about this and other issues i have been having. i finally got the name of a local psychologist. I have had his number for about a month now but can not get the courage to call him. I have always had a difficult time discussing my problems with others. I was wondering if anyone would be able to tell me what to expect if i did decide to call.
I would greatly appreciate any information.

Hi Lisa 92, My name is Sharon. I am going back tonight to see my therapist for my anxiety/panic issues that ARE NOT GOING AWAY either. I don't think I have seen her for over 4 years now. I have been struggling with this for over 20 years and for the most part have been OK but lately, I can't seem to shake it.

All I can suggest is just to call. Your initial appt will probably be alot of background information about your family, etc. You will probably just touch on why you are there, etc.

You will do it when you are ready but the sooner the better because you will start to feel better.

I was a bit worried about calling up a psychologist to make an appointment as well. REMOVED But anyway, my anxiety got so bad though that I just said, "heck with it!". I called the psychologist, told him I was having trouble with anxiety and made an appointment. The psychologist knows that it is tough for people to get help for their problems, so trust me, they will try and make it easier for you. I had someone drive me to my first appointment because I was nervous. I was nervous going in but you have to think that, "this person is going to help me". I cried a lot in the first session describing what was happening to me, but if you get a good psychologist, they will show great empathy for how you are feeling (I think my psychologist shed a tear too!). Putting off seeing your psychologist will only make it a bigger struggle. Go to a quiet place where no one is around, dial the number and say "heck with it!". Trust me, you'll be happy you did.:)
