I just learned a few weeks ago that I have Bipolar II. I'm still trying to process the diagnosis and learn what I can. I've been reading through the posts and the Board has been helpful.

I haven't seen this addressed so thought I would ask. I've started on Depakote ER and I'm at 1000mg a day. Did anyone notice that it changed the way food tasted or cause a bad taste in general? Food is not as enjoyable as it used to be except for a few specific things. I have been craving guacamole and hummus which are things I like, I just normally don't want them every day for every meal.

At the time of my diagnosis I was in a severe state of anxiety. I had been taking Wellbutrin XL and Buspar which were not helping. My pdoc took me off those drugs and started the depakote. I also wondered if Wellbutrin withdrawal could cause these food changes.

Hi, i'm sorry to hear you have Bipolar II, i was diagnosed with bipolar nearly 12months ago and i'm still finding it difficult to accept it.

Regarding your medication, i'm not sure about Wellbutrin but i was on depakote for almost 12 months and all it made me wana do is eat. I dont know if Depakote ER has a different effect on food, but its best if you check these things with your dr.

hi,
depakote messed me up bad. i couldn't function on it. i just got off my wellbutrin and have had no problem with withdrawals from it. i am on other meds tho. as far as your anxiety goes i have severe anxiety and antidepressants didn't help. my dr. prescribed me xanax and it works great. hope all goes well for you. i know it's hard but keep your chin up. it will get better. i thot it never would but am much better now. tho never completely stable. i have just learned to cope.
much love,
dove:angel:
