Hi everyone, I am hoping I can get some help here. My daughter is 5 years old, she is very tiny and petite. Every since she turned 3 she had continuous vominting every time she gets sick with a cold or anything. She will vomit and keep doing it and we end up in the E.R every time. They give her a suppository that makes her very drowsy and sleepy so by the time her she is dosed two or three times the vomiting is gone. There has to be another way to treat this. The thing is that the E.R doctor gave me some suppositories and they never work at home. What should I do? I have found two different diseases, one is CVS (Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome) and Gastroenteritis. Does anyone know anything about this? PLEASE HELP!

Does this only happen when she has a cold? My 4-year-old son vomits when he has a lot of sinus drainage into his stomach. He has been treated with rectal phenergan suppositories, which almost always help. They make him very drowsy; they relax the muscle to prevent retching. If the suppositories are not working at home, then they might not be inserted far enough or are not staying inserted long enough. I know from experience, it is very difficult! My son feels like he needs to have a bowel movement and wants to immediately sit on the toilet, and there goes the medicine....I would talk to her pediatrician too, he/she needs to do whatever it takes to figure out what is causing the vomiting. Hope this helps.

since this appears to not want to stop,i would most definitely get a referral to a ped GI doc for a full eval on her.there must be some sort of an underlying reason for this. Its good that you are researching this but in order to really know and understand just why this appears to keep happeneing,a good GI can do many different types of tests to come to some sort of Dx and hopefully put this whole thing to rest for her,and you.

i am sure that every time this occurs it must be having at least some sort of an effect on your daughter, and she must be a bit scared always havingto go to the ER every time she gets sick.i do feel for you.i went thru a nightmare with my youngest son that resuted in many many trips to the er and alot of lengthy hosp stays.tho my sons medical problems were a bit more complicated, the repeated trips really do take their toll onour kids.the sooner you can get this under control or actually have some sort of a Dx as to what is actually causing this, the better.I do think in order to do that in the quickest and easiest way would definitely be thru a good ped GI doc.thats what worked for us.

hopefully this is nothing major and maybe it is something she will just grow out of,but getting her evaluated really does need to be done.good luck and please let me know what you find out.marcia

Thank you for your replies. Yes, she has this vomiting issue everytime she has a cold. It's worse in the winter...and we know winter's in Indiana are pretty cold. I was planning on finding a specialist just didn't know what kind. Thank you for mentioning a GI doctor. Thanks once again...god bless.
