View Full Version : Depakote and rash?

Good evening,

Can Depakote cause rashes?

Tonight I went out to do a speed workout. I ran 4 miles/6.6 km at a pretty good pace. It is also hot and humid here tonight. My upper body/torso was very itchy. It was a good thing it was getting dark so people couldn't see me scratching myself (above the the waist ;) ). When I got home, I had a reddish, slightly bumpy rash on my upper body. I think it was heat rash. I used to get heat rash as a child but I haven't gotten it in years.

I showered and cooled off and now the rash is going away.

This also happened during my work out on Saturday under similar weather conditions.

Weird.

Thanks for any input!

Runningbunny (who seems to be going bald due to Depakote and who is now also very itchy)

I took Depakote for about 2 years and never got a rash, but everyone reacts differently to meds. If it does cause a rash, it's news to me.

Actually I got a rash with Depakote when they first put me on it. They gave me Benedryl in the hospital to try and help it. It didn't and so they took me off of it. It was these red raised blotchy areas that itched like the dickens. So next time you see the pdoc you might want to mention it and see what they say. My rash didn't go away so fast as that so perhaps it was heat and not the meds.
