View Full Version : Repeating Sentences

This is just a question. A few years ago I worked with a lady that repeated things she said 2 or 3 times in a row. Like you'd ask her how she was and she'd respond with "I'm doing great" "I'm doing great" "I'm doing great". Now she didn't do this with every sentence she uttered, but a lot of them. Sometimes instead of repeating it straight in a row if several folks would be in a discussion and she'd add something, after a couple people had spoken, she'd repeat hers. Reason I'm bringing this up, is I work with another lady now that I've worked with for years and in the last few months she has started doing the same thing (she's not old, only about 45 or 46). She'll be talking, say like today when everyone was discussing a local crime that was on the news, when she got thru with telling the story of her arrest she said "yup, she got arrested", "yup, she sure got herself arrested", "yup she's been arrested". Seems she does this even more than the other lady. Anyone ever heard of this before?

I'd say that it's either an OCD-related compulsion, a tic from Tourette's, or echolalia from autism. Do you know why she does it?
