View Full Version : Funny Afternoon Sugars?????

Hi All,

This is something that has happened to me on a number of occasions.

In the afternoon, at about 4 or 5, which would be 4 or 5 hours after lunch, I will check my blood sugar and it would be say 7. I would then check before dinner, at 7ish and it will be higher, normally 3 or 4 points, even though I haven't eaten anything?

It seems a bit strange, and I have a feeling it is because my Novorapid has worn off, but it seems strange it only happens occasionally?

Any ideas anyone? Thanks!

Oscar

Oscar,

Your lunchtime Novorapid would be just about all gone by this stage. But lunch should have been fully digested by this time too. And the Lantus basal action should be enough to stop your blood sugar from rising.

It is possible that your Lantus shot from the previous night is wearing off at this stage. In which case, splitting the Lantus dose between morning and evening shots would help.

You can verify this is the problem by skipping lunch and the corresponding Novorapid injection. If your Lantus is adequate, your BG should stay in the target range all the way through to supper (avoid unusual exercise when you are doing this). If your Lantus isn't adequate, you will see your BG rising during this time.

Cheers,

Mark :p

Thanks again Mark,

I may well give it a try, although skipping lunch would be very hard!
