What do you do when they are looking at the computer screen and I know for a fact that I have never worked at these places, never even heard of them, and they are from another state. What should I do?

Question them for more info....Don't want to scare you but maybe your identity was stolen...or perhaps a person put the wrong SS number down as a typo....now I know that my sisters SS is just one number off from mine and we have had some trouble with typos on us....JUST do not let it slide...it effects your SS payments and you do not want to OWE them any money any time in your life....You may need to prove you did not work there by using your IRS returns for those years....

I'm with countrykid! I would definately check into this more and get to the bottom of it. Could be any number of things, but please make sure you work with them to get figure it out.

Good luck!

This happened to me. They said I worked in Alaska and made $89,000 plus what I actually worked. I've never been to Alaska. But sometimes when you work for a company it will show as another company in another state if the company you work for is a broker company who answers to the Corporate office in another state.. All it did for me was raise my benefit amount. I never owed taxes.

Thanks ya'll, looks like I will have to figure out what is going out with them, does anyone know if it costs to have them print out your work history? I spoke with my dad, and he had them do it when he filed, and he said it cost him. I just want to know they don't have something they shouldn't. I don't think I should have to pay for that.

While you were employed you should have received in the mail every year around your birthday from the Social Security Admininstration Dept a booklet.
Inside this booklet are the dates of when you first started working up until the present..............
Corresponding to these dates are the wages you made that year.................
How many work credits you have earned to date..........
Excatly how much $$$$ you would received from Social Security if you would retire *today*............
Exacttly how much $$$$ you would receive from Social Security Disability if you were disabled *today*..........
Exactly how much $$$$ each family member would receive........

I would suggest that you locate this booklet & go over the dates & wages & check to see if there are any that are unaccountable for. The info in this booklet is the same one the people at the Social Security Disability Department is looking at. Matter of fact, when I originally filed for disability benifits I had to send them a copy of my work history from SS department even though I knew they already had it.

You can contact the SS Department & request this wage booklet yourself for *free* if you don't have it.

Hope this helps.

Goodness! I used to be employed an there was NO year..not one where SS sent me any such booklet. Never heard of such a thing and I physically was employed in two diff states during my work years..

Maybe they just do that in your state?

I always kept my tax returns and my copies of W-2's and 1099's as my personal paper trail of employment.

We are from Indiana and my husband and I get one every year from SS. They are right it comes around our birthday. My brother got one and the next year when he got one his monthly benefit had he retired had gone down, even though he worked all year. He had to call them and one of his employers had not reported his earnings and info for that year. It makes good sense to check yours out every year if you get one.

I have only received one thing that might even come close to the thing your mentioning. I got it when I was 27 been several years since and still nothing. I guess I will be asking for this, as I need to know what on earth they were looking at. I did work for some companies that were part of a franchise, but am not sure if that was the ones they were speaking of. I just recently filed for SSDI, and don't want them to think I am trying to screw the system, if you know what I mean. I wouldn't feel right ending up with someone elses money, that they worked for, and if someone tried to steal my info. I sure feel sorry for that sucker! I'm waiting for them to finish as they said looking threw my medical records, they were waiting on just one of them last I spoke to them. It was from a follow up exam I had with a doctor, that said I wasn't cured(go figure). So I wonder if anyone knows when they get all these how long it usually takes them(I know they take there time)to say yes or no. This is the first time I have filed.

SS does this for every person who has ever been employed in all states. You are suppose to review the info & notify them immediately for any errors your find.

You are also suppose to keep these booklets in a safe place until it's time for you to retire and/or collect disability.

You can find your personal SS statement by going to the Social Security website

Regarding you having W-2s & a paper trail, evidently Social Security Disability AND Social Security Administration has W-2s of someone claiming to be YOU who has worked at places that you claim you have never worked at.
This can ONLY be done if this person has your SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER! If this is the case, you may need to get the police involved as well as the FBI if state lines has been crossed.

Good Luck
