Hi List,

Has anyone else heard from their doctor or anyone else that the Forteo stays in your system and it will not hurt you if you do not take it for a week or two? One person, I forget who it was told me that. I did elect not to take it on a 3 day trip but I am hoping to drive to see my daughter next month in NC which will require a few days driving and staying about a week and driving home.

Someone did tell me they were told this by their doctor. Was wondering if anyone else has heard this also. The problem is also that if you stay in some hotels along the way they may not have refrig/freezers and some are not the hottest either ( or should I say the coldest). In one hotel luckily I I had along my thermometer also and it almost froze me Forteo. The freezer had no door on it and part of the really cold air was going into the freezer. I put some paper towel over the freezer to act as sort of a door which seemed to help. Not sure if we will be able to plan ahead to call and make sure they have them anyway. Even when they say they do, sometimes they are not ready for you when you come and hopefully it (or they) are not being used.

Would appreciate any help you all can give to me. I forgot to mention it to my doctor who I will be changing anyway. I do like her but she is no longer in the convenient office to me that she came to one day a weel. No she is about 30 miles farther away. So, I think I have found another one. Good grief !! I am so tired of looking for doctors both for my osteo and FM and my FM/CMP.

Bye for now.

Blessings,

Granniluvs8 :)

I'm not positive, but I think I recall reading of a clinical study in which some patients only took Forteo every other month (28 days on, 28 days off) and the results at the end of a year were almost as good as for those who took Forteo every day. If that is correct, then skipping Forteo a few days should make very little difference.

Unfortunately, I can't seem to find a reference to that study now.

I hope it's not too late for this response. I just got back from a trip overseas and decided not to take the Forteo with me. My endocrinologist had said that it would be fine to take the break, and the Forteo reps also said that many people do this. They did not go as far as saying that it was ok to do it, but simply that many people do it. I actually felt good giving my body a break from it and realized that it would have been a real hassle had I brought it with me. I hope you have (or had) a great trip!!!

My doctor hasn't said anything about skipping shots but my Forteo comes to my door in an ice chest with ice packs. When I travel (not as far as Europe though) I pack it up just like the way it's shipped to me. It is good for 24 hours that way. Then I either use a refrigerator at the hotel while my ice packs refreeze and I keep it in the ice chest while I'm visiting, or request a small refrigerator in the room. You do have to have a thermometer for those little refrigerators because they will freeze stuff.
