Can somebody please help me figure this out?
I've been having a bad taste in my mouth, most of the time. It has nothing to do with what I eat, and it's not a food taste. It's mettalic, bitter, like a pill. Sometimes it tastes plant-like, or even like a mineral.
The only medication I take is Valium, which isn't suppost to do this.
What could be causing the bad taste in my mouth?

Do you think you might have a sinus or other type of upper respiratory infection? Those types of things often cause a bad taste in your mouth like you are describing. It could also be allergies if you have ever had a problem with those.

Hi PsychoScream. Call the pharmacist and make sure this is not a possible side effect. Some meds can cause this for some people even when it is not considered a main side effect.
I had this happen with an antibiotic I took. The pharmacist told me it is not a common side effect but that some people experience it.

Well, I found out that a bitter taste IS a minor side-effect for Valium. However, it's suppost to disappear once the body becomes "used to" the medication. I've been on Valium for about 10 years now, and I never had this problem before.
Maybe it's the antihistamine I've been taking, or my toothpaste...
A sinus infection is possible, I guess, and allergies have been a problem.

Update:
Well, it appears the bitter taste was the antihistamine I was taking. Turns out, that's one of the side effects of antihistamines. I'm taking less, and no more bitter taste.
However, there's still a dry, chalky taste under my tongue. It comes and goes with no apparent cause. I thought it was the MOM I was taking, but stopping the MOM didn't help.
Sometimes the taste is really awful... My doctor will be hearing about this in a week...
In the meantime, does anybody have any ideas about the chalky taste? Has anybody had this problem before?
