View Full Version : Need To Gain Weight...But How?

I've been told I'm underweight and that I need to gain weight.

I'm 29, 5'5 and 116 pounds, though 2 scales at home say that I'm 116, while the other 120.

I'm not a big eater and never was. I'm a slow eater too, maybe a steak dinner can take me 45 minutes to eat. I guess I just became accustomed to eating slow, and thus filling up sooner.
My monthly cycle is on the dot, every month, give or take a day or two, and I'm healthy with no health problems.

How can I gain the weight in a healthy manner? I think I need to gain 10 pounds. I'm already a healthy eater and rarely snack on junk food. But I just eat in small portions and slowly.

Any advice? I am a size 2, and I think I need to go up a notch to a 4.
Thanks.
:)

You might be able to try "Ensure" shakes. My mom threatened to make me start drinking it when I was a teenager because she thought I had an eating disorder when I lost some weight.

Talk with your doctor about a healthy way to go about gaining the weight they think you need to gain. Good Lcuk!!

to gain weight you need to consume more calories than you burn. This can be accomplished eating healthy foods

Even better than drinking Ensure would be to make your own smoothies at home and add lots of ingredients.

I usually make mine with milk, plain yogurt, chocolate protein powder (high quality such as whey), flaxseeds, berries, honey, and peanut butter (Lots!).
But, if you want to gain weight, don't have that as a meal alone, make it in between meals maybe 2 times a day. Rotate what you put in it so you don't get bored of the same thing. ;)

Also, olive oil, walnuts, and healthy fats like that are a good way to get extra calories, but that aren't overly filling.

Good luck! :)

When my boyfriend was killed I lost alot of weight. I looked like I was on crack or something. I started drinking ensure and the weight came back slowly but surely. I was friends with this man who runs the pharmacy and he told me that would be the safest way to gain it back.

i just want to add my 2 cwents...make sure you still exercise because if not you will gain fat and not muscle. Like eat more and exercise, even if it is not heavy. you will find the right balance fo ryou.
