hey all,
just found this site and I already feel less isolated.(even though it has been a while since there has been activity)
I fell on 10-13-05 had surgery to replace half of my right calcaneus 11-01-06.
I own my own business as a building contractor, so needless to say to those who've been here. I have'nt worked since. nor do I have any idea when or if I will in this field again. I've had, what I believe to have been, great care and an excellent surgical outcome, but it just seems such a desparately long recoup....just making contact with someone who has been there. thanks

Hi! Yes, this can be a long and isolating recovery. My husband fractured his right heel 11/04. He was in a wheelchair for 4 months afterward. He installs commercial ceilings and wears stilts all day. He did return to work but was in so much pain that he often only made it 3-4 days a week. And when he got home from work it was straight to the ice pack and the pain killers!! Read my other post for the rest of the story.

There are(at least there used to be) quite a few 'heelies' here. It's amazing how many people have had this injury.

Why did they wait so long to do your surgery? Can I ask where you had your surgery? My husband went to Harborview. Dr. Benirschke is his doctor...we've heard he's one of the best. Good luck with your recovery.~Mush
