terrell2 07-16-2006, 09:15 PM Klonopin Nearly Killed Me Four Years Ago My Doctor Said I Was Depressed...and Hda Panic Attacks.....what Troubles Me Is This Drug Is In The Opiate Family...opium......they Are Giving This Med To Kids..this Needs To Stop Sponsor farills 07-22-2006, 12:41 AM I thought colanzepam was a benzo, not an opiate. Blasterboy 07-22-2006, 07:21 AM Klonopin is a Benzo, definatly not an opiate. I don't know why it would be used to treat depression as it's an anti anxiety type of drug? Jennah 07-23-2006, 11:37 AM Hey Blasterboy!! I saw your name on here and just wanted to reconnect. It's Jennah. You were the 1st person to respond to me when I came on the boards back in maybe March. It's been awhile since I had been posting because I was just absorbed in my own battle I guess. Anyway I finally went to a Dr. this past Wed. and got started on suboxone.I also finally told my husband about my addiction which has been the greatest relief so far!! So I just wanted to say ..Hey!! Take care,Jennah Blasterboy 07-23-2006, 03:04 PM Great to hear from you Jennah, honasty is a good step in the right direction; best wishes with you current recovery program. Love Blasterboy always down 07-23-2006, 03:11 PM Klonopin is not an opiate??????? I have been on it for the past 5 years at 6mg per day. 2mg 3 times a day and it has only improved my life. I take a seperate pill called Nefazodone for my depression. Blasterboy 07-23-2006, 03:24 PM do you get sleepy on that dose? Ailene 07-23-2006, 05:10 PM Hi Blasterboy! My name's Aileen and I just joiined a couple weeks. Just wanted you to know I'm taking a "cocktail" of antipressants and Klonopin. For me Klonopin is the only thing that pushes back the scary and super sad thoughts and keeps them from causing me to get really desparate. I realize that some doctors may be mis-prescribing it and if they are I hope they are severely dealt with. I was on a small amount and recently went from .05 mg to 1 (sometimes up to 1.5) per day). I have recently been feeling very tired sometimes needing some caffeine - that's a no no if you are on lithium. I am feeling a bit torn with what I should do. Klonopin is the only thing that really makes the difference. Were you seriously addicted to Klonopin and how long had you been taking it when you noticed symptoms? If you want to know the truth I feel like my whole day has been in slow motion. Including sleeping for a couple of hours after I had been up for only 5. How are you coping? Aileen Blasterboy 07-23-2006, 06:16 PM Hi Ailene, I've never been addicted to Klonopin, why did you think that? Anyhow I wasn't suggesting to "Always Down" that his dose was too high, that's between him and his doctor, in fact my Pain Management specialist has told me before that I can take up to 6mg of Klonopin a day, but I find that even 3mg a day is way to strong for me anyhow on the occasions I’ve taken that dose for breakthrough, (I take it to treat my Chronic post op nerve pain, I've been on it for over 6 months and don't abuse it.) So for yourself you just have to work with the doctor, I do my best to keep my dose as low as possible as it's not the type of drug that I like to have to take, but like you I have a genuine medical condition and so I just have to work closely with my doctor and make sure I don't start self medicating; that's where the problem would start and the line is crossed. Of course we have a physical dependency to this drug but that's very different from addiction, so keep honest with your reasons for using and be as candid as possible with your doctor and then you'll be just fine on this drug....... LisaV 07-23-2006, 07:54 PM I wa prescribed clonopin for anxiety and panic attacks that would put me in the hospital for tachycardias. (This was after a very stressful divorce.) That wasn't the only drug I was on including Buspar, and Celexa for depression. I'm off the Celexa (I hate SSRI's, but it helped at the time), I'll stay on the Buspar, the safest and most effective drug for plain anxiety that I've been on for 2 years without side effects (no weight gain, no sexual side-effects, etc.) I'm still on .05 mg of clonopin every day, but just until the side-effects of the terrible SSRI is totally gone and I can go without any panic attacks. When I was on 1 - 2 mg a day, I couldn't stay awake. It was painful to TRY to stay awaks, and I had to work through that! Driving was DANGEROUS. It did help at the time when I needed it the most. I am not addicted to it and do not abuse it. I do (did, I am at the end of my taper) abuse opiates, so no, it's not in the same. I get no high or anything from clonopin, and have had no problem when I go down a dose. I know it is possible to get addicted to it, so I've been warned. But for me it just does it's job, but on higher doses it is rediculous b/c you cannot function. It's like Valium, just has a longer half-life (am I saying that right?) Everyone knows Valium can be addicting, so that means be careful. Either way, yes, be careful of the drug. If you shouldn't be taking it, or are abusing at a higher dose than prescribed, you will have to expect side-effects, w/d's of some sort, and it is dangerous to be that tired. Get off of it and talk to your doctor if you need something else. Good luck. Many of us here need drugs legitimately, so I hope you find what works for you without the fear of addiction or abuse. Lisa Blasterboy 07-24-2006, 05:38 AM Actually Valiums half life is twice that of Klonopin, although the action of Klonopin feels disstinctly longer. Twinklez81 07-24-2006, 01:46 PM you don't have to tell me. I was given that stuff and took it for the entire week last week and got severely sick. I had bad joint pain, diarrhea, and a bad rash. I threw the pills in the trash. Everything but the rash is gone, but at least the Rash is getting better. ICC 07-24-2006, 03:04 PM i've taken klonopin off and on for about 4-5 years. it is the only drug that has helped me sleep and stay calm when i am in a really anxious state. i can work on it, drive, etc. when i start to feel sleepy in the morning i cut it back to 1 a day. always down 07-24-2006, 03:55 PM 6 mgs a day keeps me feeling good and I am not tired at all. It is what my doctor and I have decided is the best for me. I have been on it for at least 4 years but only the past year have I been on 6mgs a day. Blasterboy 07-24-2006, 04:06 PM Thanks, I was just curious, my PM doc said he has someone taking 6-8mg a day for pain relief. ICC 07-24-2006, 04:50 PM interesting-------i have never heard of it being used for PM. my husband takes it for RLS. mine are prescribed .5mg. 2x's daily if needed.
