I was recently diagnosed with an intestinal disorder called Celiac Disease, and have been having many complications as a result. Now I may have to undergo a CT scan, which will require an injection of iodine thru IV. I'm terribly nervous about this due to just having had an allergic reaction to Morphine recently, and knowing how scary that felt I don't want another allergic reaction! Because I'm an allergy prone person, I'm afraid of how the iodone will feel going in. Has anyone here ever had a contrast agent injection, and if so what's it like? What sensations are normal and what aren't? And what exactly would a CT ab scan show?

The test is painless meaning the machine and you may have to drink barium too which may cause diarrhea or constipation. There is a rare chance that you can have an allergic reaction to the iodine. You need to tell the techician of your sensitivity to having an allergic reaction and they should give you some benadryl before the test. Also, not to scare you but if where the iv is going in starts to burn, let them know because it means your vein collapsed. They stuck me three times before they got a good vein. Also, you may feel a slight burning sensation in your chest but it will pass. I ct scan can detect many things such as
