I have been having pain in my right upper side for about a year now. I have had many tests with the doctors telling me that I have a grossly enlarged gallbladder. Now.....my pain is very real and constant. I am constipated half the time and diahrea the rest of the time. I am sick at my stomach alot, but I also suffer from GERD too. The pain is constant and sometimes sharp and unbearable. It also travels around to my back. I have been told that I have no stones. Any one out there have the same symtoms???

Before you allow your doctor to remove your gallbladder you better make sure that is the problem. Doctors will take out your gallbladder just trying to patch the situation up and then you look the problem is right back.

Thanks for the advice. That is the reason I have not had surgery so far.......I want to be sure that it is my gallbladder before they take it out and I still have the same problems. I had the test done that shows you wether or not your gallbladder is working or not and like everyone else......the second part of the test like to have killed me. It made me hurt so bad and I was really sick at my stomach for a while after the test. All they could tell me was that my gallbladder was working but that it was grossly enlarged!!! Well......Duh! What the heck makes it grossly enlarged??? I have looked it up on the net and do not like what it says. I am going to a differant doctor this week.......maybe he can tell me. Thanks for your advice and if you can be of anymore help, please feel free to tell me! Thanks!

I understand your reluctance to have your GB removed, but your symptoms sound very much like gall bladder disease. If it's enlarged, then it's probably inflamed, and not functioning properly anyway. The fact that you reacted with pain/nausea during the hida scan is further proof that the gall bladder may be to blame.

Docs can never be 100% sure if the gall bladder is causing all your digestive problems. I had mine out in '97 which took care of all my right side pain, nausesa, fatigue, and discomfort. However, I still have GERD and IBS, so those conditions cause their own symptoms to deal with. You will probably feel much better if the gall bladder comes out. Yes, there are exceptions, but if your GB has been diagnosed as enlarged, and your docs feel this is causing your problems, you should consider having it removed.

Why continue suffering needlessly?

Good luck and keep us posted,
Katie G
