I had this rash that wouldn't go away, and had been given many creams for it. I had three different kinds, nothing worked. The doctor never really did figure out what it was. Anyway I see a regular MD for thyroid issues. I had to see an Endo for my thyroid issues, as I have Thyroid Eye Disease, and my eye doc had sent me to him. Anyway as soon as he saw this rash, he mentioned something like "Have you been having your blood sugar monitored?" I said no, should I? He said yes, and sent me on my way. Well I said something to my regular doctor about that, and she said ok well check it. Sure enough I was Dxed typer 2.....turns out since I saw the Endo for other issues he didn't check this and knew what that rash was all along, it was due to the diabetes! I just find this all kind of crazy. I am now finally seeing this rash improve, I am so glad. It just burns me up that he knew what he was looking at and did nothing. Can anyone else relate?

It is so frustrating to have a dr say to you something on the lines as what you said..it is like well then why don't you????? It just doesn't seem right....My husband and I see many doctors for our health conditions and it just feels like one sends you to another...like my husbands PCP told him about the reaction my husband was having with a drug and he said well you better call the neuro about that...I didn't prescribe it...maybe he should put you on this other medicine...so...well why can't you??? So instead we have to drive 40 miles to see the other dr to have the medicine changed....and the PCP was the first dr to treat my husband with the condition we just went to the neuro to confirm and have other studies done...so I know how you feel...

That seems very frustrating. I hope all is better now that you have been diagnosed and are being treated.

It is very frustrating as I have my regular MD that I see for just about everything, but then there are these other doctors that I have been refered to by my eye doctor. Mind you I would see the Endo all the time if he wasn't 2 1/2 hours away. I just don't understand why he couldn't tell me what it was, as the diabeties didn't come on until the steriods were being used which was done due to the Thyroid Eye Disease(which is the reason I was refered to him in the first place) Anyway it is complicated to keep these doctors seprate as they all interlock. They all know I have a reg doc, and they all have had to deal with each other, so why can't one do what the other wasn't able, it's confusing. Maybe it has to do with medical insurance.

I have found that part of it has to do with how much control you take. Have you told the endo that you want him to help you deal with the diabetes? You need to decide who does what and who will consult with what. In the end, I am the one that makes all my own medical decisions. I ask all the questions and whichever doc I am at when something comes up is usually the one I get to deal with the problem. I have 9 different doctors. Now obviously I wouldn't get the lung specialist to deal with a rash. If I were you I would make sure that I would get the endo to check out the diabetes stuff along with the family doc. The endo knows a lot more and there is no reason why you can't consult both.

The bottom line is that this sort of thing happens to all of us and it happens all the time. It will be a lot of hard work for you, but if you want better care you are going to have to expect it, demand it, and take control. You will have to be the final repository for all your info (what drugs you are on, why you are on them, what dosages, etc) and you will have to always ask questions such as: do I need to take more/less/or stop this med? What should we do next. Are things stable/better/worse? What do we do about that?

Good luck to you in your quest for better care.

What medication are you taking for it? I get yeast rashes all of the time due to me sugars. Yeast lives on sugar and when your blood sugars are really high, it can lead to a yeast infection. The sad things is that many people don't realize that you can get a yeast infection anywhere and it doesn't matter if you are a man or woman.
Luckily, I now recognize them and control them before they get bad. The last one was on my forearm. Funny place for one if you ask me but yeast none the less.
Glad you found out what it was.

Have you told the endo that you want him to help you deal with the diabetes?
Coravh,I would have if I had known I had it. He is the one that suggested I get checked for it, as he was looking at the rash on my hand. Saying"Have you had your blood sugars checked?" I was like "No, should I be?" and he said "Yes" So instead of him checking them while I was there, he just sent me on my way. So I had to ask my MD about it, telling her what he had said, as he never did mention this in his report to her either.
Mommyof4, The rash hasn't responded to nystatin at all, and all it seems to do is make it itch more, the drier it is the better it seems to get, I just wish it would go away. Then the other is a cortizone cream and a steriod(can't remember the name as it has been that long since I used it). Anyway, I have seen it improve with improved blood sugars but not all the way.
