I've been diagnosed with what may be a precancerous polyp ("atypical adenomatous hyperplasia of the endometrium"). After tests found the polyp, doctor did a D&C and removed it and the extremely heavy bleeding. Now he recommends a total hysterectomy, because he believes another polyp will probably grow in the future.
Does anyone know the probability of polyps growing in the endometrium after one is removed? And the chances of precancerous cells occuring in areas around the uterus? Would removing just the uterus be a reasonable option? I want to keep my ovaries if possible. I'm 50, perimenopausal.
