Hi folks,
Thanks for all your replies- calmed me lots. One thing that one of you suggested was a thyroid problem. My hunch is that this is the central cause of a lot of difficult-to-diagnose problems today and is largely ignored by the medical profession.

My mother has just been diagnosed with hypothyroidism (undiagnosed for years and years) and apparently it's a hereditary disease. So I guess I'd better trot on down to the doctor (more time off work!!!)

One further question for you out there. Is it possible to have GERD without heartburn? - I have no real pain just suffocating reflux..

Take Care!xx

Hi,
I was diagnosed as hypothyroid a few months after having my daughter in June 2002. I didnt finally get treatment until May 2003. I have been on Synthroid ever since and I have my ups & downs. I have not been the same since having my daughter and I fear I never will be again. I have also developed along with this, digestive problems and GERD to the point that its difficult for me to breath. I always have a full feeling & gnawing, tightness in chest & throat. I am getting an endoscopy in two weeks to confirm what is wrong and I will be some what relieved. I do agree that the thyroid affects alot of functions in the body. My mom & aunt also have thryoid problems.

My GERD has gotten worse over the months and at first wasnt too bad. Occasionally I would get a burning feeling if I overate or had chocolate or caffeine. I think I have had it for a while, but not until recently have I really begun to feel effects like the suffocating feeling. I think alot of people dont realize they have because they expect to get the burning feeling and for some its not burning feeling at all that they experience.
