Hi All, I have been having a problem with excess mucus in my throat. It's so bad, It never goes away and becomes painful as it builds during the day. I went to a ENT Dr. he did surgery to open up my nasal passages but the problem is still going on each day. My ENT thinks it's stomach acid coming up and sitting in my throat, it's very thick [thats why I can't swallow it down] and sometines I get a burning feeling in my mouth and throat.
I'm taking ulcer meds and tums.
has anyone know anything about this?
please help!
I have this problem. I've been on serious GERD meds for 10 months, but the mucus is still there. It used to be thicker than it is now - to the point where I'd wake up at night choking on it. I cough a lot in the morning and sometimes throughout the day. It's like I have a cold everyday -- very frustrating. I even have that gross tickle in the back of my throat - like when you have a cold. I'm seeing a different gastro doc this week. I hope he can do something.

thanks kjm for your reply. Is the mucus you have always there? It's making me crazy,so bad somedays I can't do anything. I just keep trying to swallow it down but it's so thick it just sits there. You said you are doing to a new doc. this week. If you find out anything about this, if it really is related to acid would you Please let me know? You can always post it here.
Thanks--- Betty

My grandaughter has choked so many times in her short 19 months of life. Now she is getting bigger, she puts her fingers in her mouth and pulls it out as sometimes it's a bit stringy.
This is a very common symptom of reflux. Usually this only affects my grandaughter when her meds need sorting out (kids medication is weight sensitive). Perhaps if this is happening a lot to you, you could ask your doctor if there is any other drug etc that you could try.
Have you been advised to avoid chocolate, alcohol, caffeine, spicy and fatty foods etc? Do you have your bed elevated? All this things can dramatically reduce symptoms for some refluxers.
