Took a cab to the doctor's office today for the check-up. $7.00 to go 5 blocks as the crow flies. Outrageous! Doc said foot was looking good...well, let's amend that to better.....and actually healing at more than the usual rate two weeks after surgery. So I figured I could cut a few corners on taxis and took the bus to the Post Office to pick up my mail. Well, that was okay. Picked up my mail including a big box from Ebay (which should have arrived weeks ago) then walked 4 blocks to the pharmacy to have the new prescriptions filled for after the 7/26 second foot surgery....toting the Ebay box, of course. Had to wait on my feet 20 minutes for the prescriptions but wanted to avoid having to make another trip out to pick them up. Walked two blocks more in the direction of my apartment building to stop at a wonderful Italian deli for frozen lasagna and frozen veal parmesan. Put that in my back-pack. Walked one more block to the deli for milk, salad and bananas, then half a block home. I was already almost in tears from the pain. Had no idea how I was going to get the stuff up 5 flights of stairs but an angel guy with wicked tattoos that I didn't even know lived here took pity on me and hauled up the box and the bag of groceries. There are still some gentlemen around! Took to my bed immediately with my feet raised. Moral of the story: Listen to the doctor when he says to stay off your feet!
I have a tendency to think I am Superwoman but I was quickly disabused of that notion today and will be on best behavior from now on. Any other newbies to the world foot surgery...learn from my experience. DON'T push things. Back to bed and my ice packs!
