View Full Version : Cortaid/OTC Hydrocortisone Testing

My spouse recently did a 24 hour UFC for our GP and it came back as very elevated. When asked if she was using anything like Cortaid or OTC Hydrocortisone creams, she said no. He said he found that difficult to believe based on the high results and that he would have the lab test the sample again. It came back as elevated again but this doctor is hedging back and forth on whether or not he believes that my wife is being honest. I am more than a little irritated at these innuendos from him. My question, which I hope someone on here can answer is, can we have the lab test the sample for the presence of any foreign substance, i.e. cortaid or OTC hydrocortisone? I've scowered the internet but cannot find any information on this subject. I did read one tidbit that, if I was reading correctly, stated that you couldn't test for topical steroid creams as they emulate what your body normally produces in the UFC.

So, does anyone know if the OTC creams can be dectected in laboratory testing and if so, how do we go about getting that done? Is there a special lab that we would have to go through or have our doctor use?

Thank you all very much.

Confused and frustrated,

Alan, husband to Claire
