Howdy,
I did a search with the key words IBS+horomones and found a little. A sufferer since 17 I am now 28. I just recently found out that I have very low testosterone and my estrogen level is way too high for a man. I don't know how long this has been out of control. (Ironically I didn't start the majority of puberty until 17) very late, but didn't have the gonads, literally, to go get checked out because of embarrasment. How many of you out there believe that horomone imbalance could affect the digestive system. I have learned recently that test. and estrogen are not just "sex" horomones but work in every major body system in some positive way.
Kind regards,
Accatoni:wave:

Hi Acca
Im not surprised to read that actually. Too be honest, women'd hormones can cause endless problems, and can send an existing illness up the wall, so yeah i would say that dodgy hormones in men could also cause problems.
For example, if a woman has unbalanced hormones this can send her digestive system crazy, it can cause loss of appetite, loss if nutrients and other ailments, so yeah i think hormones can cause problems with IBS.
The only way to find out for sure is to treat the hormonal problem then see if the IBS symptoms go away.
Good luck

The doctor draws blood to check for any imbalance and to make sur eyour levels are correct. That is what they did for me. I can tell you this much...when they put women on BC pills (which are hormones) your body changes in almost every way imaginable so I would think hormones can do the same thing to a man, Good luck

Howdy,
Thanks for the replies. I'll keep everyone informed after I'm balanced out. All these years none of my doc's never checked for this so if it does help me, I'll want that to be known here so other people can have one more thing ruled out.
Kind regards,
Accatoni

Its ironic this subject was posted as I have been wondering about this for a few months now.
After a 3 month flare up I tried to see if there was a pattern somewhere as I started to experience nausea which I never had before with IBS.
I found that I had awful cramps, diarrhea and nausea for 2 weeks before my period and as soon as I come on things seem to subside. It takes me about a week to get over it then I have a good week thinking I am better and then it starts all over again!
I am on the pill and suggested this therory to my GP ( master of no trades ) and she seemed to disgard the idea. I am going to see a consultant in a couple of weeks so I will bring it up then. I heard that a lot of women are falsely diagnosed with IBS when actually they have endometreoisis as the two systems are kind of twisted around each other, does anyone know any more about this?

I totally agree, hormones can cause and exacerbate digestive and other problems. I am on HRT and still have digestive problems, and before hrt had the anxiety attacks, and stomach issues as well.
