I have already posted under shadow on the lung. But I need some more info on the subject of cancer. They found a shadow on my husbands lung.He smoked 3 packs a day for 40 some years and quit 2 years ago. They did a CT scan and said that it was probably scarring but they couldn't rule out cancer. They want to do another scan in 3 mo.I questioned the doctor on this.I said that if it were cancer that wasn't that a bit of time to wait to start treatment. He said that do to my husbands other health problems that he wouldn't survive if it were cancer.I asked if there were other tests that could be done.He said that it was too low in the lung to biopsy. He would have to open him up and my husband probably wouldn't survive that. The short list of his more serious health problems include:diabetes, renal failure, coronary artery disease,Hepatitis C,high blood pressure, glaucoma, and a history of TIA's.He is a double amputee. He has had 38 surgeries in the last 6 years.Last year he had a heart attack and had to have a triple bypass.I have researched this but I'm really not finding what I need to know.I need to know about symptoms. He has had the cough but he doesn't have it now.He at times talks about not being able to get his breath. He has to sleep elevated or it is hard to breath. He gets hoarse a lot and he has a hard time swallowing. The doctor had talked about doing a swallowing study on him. What I want to know is are there things that I could watch for that if it is cancer that would tell me that it is progressing. And is 3 mo. a long time to wait or doesn't it make much difference?Maybe I am being too negative but he has had the worst luck these past few years that I always think the worst is going to happen. Please someone give me some info.

I feel sad for him to have gone through all he has gone through in these last few years. I truly hope it isn't cancer and I think you should go for a second opinion but it may be true that what they would normally do is not a good thing for your husband as his condition may not allow for surgerys of this nature especially if its not yet warranted for certain. I really feel for you , I am scared for myself right now but I can't imagine what he is going through. He must be pretty brave , Im a chicken **** unfortunately. Good luck to you both , stay strong.
