Hello board
I have a question -I would like to know how the monthly check amount is determined-and I live in Washington Dc and I wanted to know if it is according to where you live?
Also, I'm filing re-consideration and I wanted to know if I should know any particular thing in filing at this stage?
thankyou

Your monthly benefit amount is based on your prior earnings and number of quarters worked. One thing you should know about the reconsideration phase is that the % of people who win is only about 15% with 85% of the initial denials being upheld. You might want to start thinking about the next phase which is a request for a hearing. The win rate there is more like 50%.

Good luck to you!

Mary is correct, your payout is determined on your quarters earned and not by any state guidelines.

If you have not already hired a good SS attorney now is the time to do so. The maximum they are allowed to take is 25% or $5200 (may be higher now) from your award. The Social Security Administration has strict guidelines on how much an attorney can take so the system is not abused. A good attorney will recognize the need for crucial medical documenation and testing and will assist you and getting things done appropriately and generally has a better outcome. Some individuals do not like hiring attorneys because they'd rather not pay that fee but if you think about it 25% of 0 is nothing when you don't win when an attorney could have actually helped you to win your case.

Best of luck and don't give up!
