hi all...been awhile since I've had the time to come and check out how everyone is doing...I use to 'pop' in often but hubby hasn't been well, 14th June he had 60% of his liver removed, plus he's due for chemo again soon,..although we knew he had stage 4 colorectol cancer with met's to the liver, (not to mention a primary to the kidney, unrelated) we found out today that his cancer was/is a G2 T3 MX ( we managed to get hold of his pathology reports) what does this mean? how bad is that? he's still extremely sore and his GP was concerned that a blood test revealed that his ALP and GGT reading was high (ALP 321 and GGT 211) but the liver specialist isn't concerned at all, said it was usual..having said this, he can hardly move wants to sleep all day, lost his appetite, to top this off, he is still suffering really badly from sore, icy cold and tingling feelings in his feet and his fingers, he was on a 6 month course of oxyplatin plus 5 FU, finished in March this year, did anyone else have these symptoms after finishing the 6 month course? I thought we were over the worse but after speaking to the Urulogist today, she seem's to indicate that she didn't expect to see him..they can't do anything re his kidney as he'll need it for his next course of chemo....the cancer there is slow growing, and it appears that the kidney is still functioning, hence their reluctance on removing it at this stage...hubby has a permanent colostomy bag now....his cancer was in the rectal muscle, he also had 13 lymph nodes removed in his first surgery....7 of which had cancer....
It's late, and I'm tired, hope this is all making sense...hubby can't sleep and hense keeps me awake.....
thanks for 'listening' to me, hope I havne't been rambling here...
bye all and take care

Hi Ozzie,

I am sorry to hear that your husband is having so many problems. I don't know anything about the pathology reports. I have tried to get the doctors to explain what things meant and they would just say everything was fine.

DH had another liver resection and ablation in March. He is doing really well now, but he stayed extremely sore for a couple of months. They implanted a hepatic artery infusion pump to put chemo directly into his liver because they weren't able to get clear margins and left some active cancer cells. The area where they put the pump is still sore. Have you mentioned to his doctor about his loss of appetite and wanting to sleep all the time? It could be a reaction to some medication he might be on or he may be depressed considering everything he has been through. My husband had the tingling in his hands and feet for a while after he quit the oxy. For him it finally let up about 8 or 9 months after treatments.

Please remember to take care of yourself too. I know it is hard sometimes to find the time to just do something for yourself. But I usually stay up after my hubby goes to bed and I'll take my bath, then read or work on a craft project for a little while. Believe me, just an hour or so makes a huge difference.

Take care and I will keep your husband and you in my prayers.
