Hi all. I am a pain patient with MS. I got to the point where i was taking too many of my oxycodone IR's 30mg. I'm at about 15 a day. of 30mg tablets. I wnet to PM doc to start sub to detox, he told me i'm on too much to take sub, and that i have to be on the equivelent of 3omg of methadoe to take it. So, he switched me fromn oxy's to methadone an equal dose, it's about 200mg a day, then once i'm leveled off we'll do a methadone taper to 30-60 mg, well, i don't want to start methadone, it sxared me, especially that high a dose, so i have decided maybe i can deto x at home, he also gave me a script for clonodine and something for sleep, i forget, it's non narcaotic, well i have meth and clonodine and somas, so you think i can ust detox myself over the next few days since i have some pharamacutical help here? i heard in rehabs some do a quick methadone taper of a few days only, how would I do that? i'm not familiar with meth. i know that i will have a lot of pain with my MS, that's why i was in PM, but I want my life back, i've turned into a couch potatoe who is o isolated and never leaves the house, and i'd like to enjoy what time i have left in this life......someone pleae help me, if i did this c/t could i die? if feels like it about 7 hours without an dose of 3 oxys. i take 90mg at a time, and i have about 30 left to use for taper, only thing is i don't have a clue how to taper with all the meds I hae. then i won't go back to PM. i'll just deal iwth neutrologist's way. oh, i started prozac 3 weeks ago, only 10mg due to sever depression of being unable to quit. thnak you, anybody who really know s how i can do this, i would be grateful for some help.

I know it was hard to talk with your pm doctor about this, but sweetie, you did the right thing. It's always best to be honest with your doctor. There are probably many people here who can help. I know there are many people on methadone for pain management purposes over on the pain management board too. You could seek information about methadone from them as far as what to expect in taking it for pm.

Your pm doctor has put you on this regimine in order to help you taper and do it safely. It sounds like you have really been taking high doses of the oxy, and I'm sure it's not in your best interest to stop cold turkey unless the doctor told you it would be safe.

Thank you for your kind reply. the thihg is I don't want PM anymmore, i went to him to do a detox using subutex sp? he said i was too hi dosed then switched me to the methadone. but geez, the meth doese is so high and i've heard horror storries switching from meth to sub that i'm afraid to start the meth and have a worlse problem. he is wanting tme to try the meth for PM purposes I know, but it'll be in my system for 2 weeks by the time i see him again, and i htink that's too late to do a more easy detox. I'm so mad at myself for screwing up. i was their model patient for 2 years, then the last 3 months i noticed myself takig more and more. they'd work with me and give me more when i was out early, the nurses...but this month i was 2 weeks early whihch is horrible and that's why i went to my doctor i wanted to nip this in the bud now and get off for at least 6 months hoping my tolerance would go down, and ow i'm ending up on somehting stronger.........he gave me clonodine and visterel in case there were w/d over weekend. i just want to be clean and free of all thse pills, i want to feel real emotions again, i've gturned into a recluse, but now i think i'll be worse tapering from 200mg a day meth to 30, he said he was doing it this way to reduce any pain for me and that once i'm low on the meth it will be easy to switch to sub. i don't know if that's true or not,
anyway, thank you, i'm just wondering when people go to rehad and they do a methdone taper for a few days to help them get off wht that is and how i could do it at home..........then if i failed, just going on all that methadone i guess.

hi,yes it is a high dose of meth but cetainly not unheard of,my daughter was on meth for 18 months and taoered slowly,went onto sub 3 minths ago and tapered slowly from that,dont attempt anything without doc say so but if you are not happy with the high dose ask asap if it is necessary and try a lower dose they can always increase it if need be,my only concern is that high a dose will make you sleepy,wish i could help more,sad mum

I think your PM doc is slightly not up to speed on Sub info. If you read through the many posts here on Sub you will find many who have had much higher daily levels of opiates then what you currently intake that successfully used Sub to either taper or control opiate issues.

I think a second opinion is your next option. I'm fairly confident you will find a Sub doc that would transition you from oxy directly to Sub without the interim meth step.

DO a search here on Sub to get a flavor of peoples experiences. I rally think you’re being steered down wrong path, like asking the cab driver to get you to where your going the quickest way but he chooses the longest route possible.

Thank you for your replies, i agree, it's going to take forever doing it like this!! so, i def do not want to but will have to find a new sub doc asap, it's the weekend, and i have enough w oxy left for 2 days and that's cutting it down to 10 i'll try to go lower. i gotta find a new doc who will try sub with me now, being on onloy 10 pills a day should be ok for sub? they put people for m heroin on it i thought at higher doeses..........the sub site does state equivelency of no more than 30mg of meth in whatever opiate combo you're on........should i take the meth until i can get into another doc next week to stop w/d once they start on sun/mon? if so, what is the lowest amount of meth you think that will have me not climbing the walls with w/d's to take until i find a sub doc? also, once a day, twice a day or the 4 times the the bottle says????????
i can't thank you guys enough. i've been ver y isolated for over a year, just wallowing in my MS diagnosis and taking these things like they were anitdepressants, then they turned on me and made me severly depressed and i would take 3 at a time, 90mgs, and i'd barely feel it now and it would last like 1.5 hours is it.... my doc keeps saying physical dependance y and not addiction, but it has to be addiction or it wouldn't have ruined my life. and changed me so much. jonsing from an addiction or jonsing from physical dependancy is the same feeling.
