Hello to all the mamas out there! I just dont know what to do...I had a c-section 9 weeks ago, and for the past month I have felt great! No bleeding or cramping. For the past 5 days or so I have been having intense cramping w/low bachache and diarrhea (tmi) so bad I have to do the breathing exercises from the paretnting classes...I thought it was my period, and I just didnt remember how bad they were, but no bleeding. I just had a tiny bit of pink watery blood just when I went to the bathroom. So, called the dr. went in and she did an exam that all most made me faint. She pulled out like 20 huge blood clots..Anyway, she told me she thought I was starting my period, but would put me on antibiotics anyway until the cultures came back to see if I truly have an infection..The question I have is the pharmacist told me I shouldn't take these while breastfeeding..they can turn the babies teeth brown even though they have not come in. Do I wait to see if I have an infection before I start the antibiotics? The doc told me to start them now...I hate to do that if I don't need to..I feel awful though, and if I have an infection it will only get worse. Another option would be the pump and dump..I just dont' know what to do..This is my first baby, and I'm really scared...Please give me some opinions. The antiobiotic is doxycycline, and it's a 7 day course 2x a day. Thanks so much

On the bottle it should have a trade name and a generic name. I know it is doxycylcine but see what the trade name is and that way I can look it up for you.

This is what it says in regards to breastfeeding. Hope this helps....

Excreted into milk.
Except for modification of bowel flora and direct effects on exposed infants, it is compatible with breast feeding.

Ok I looked up a better answer with these drug cards I have and it says while it is SAFE to use it CAN cause staining of the teeth in children under 8 yo. Hope that helps a little better.
