Hi all, I have been in PM for 2 years and I was a good patient. Now, I want off the meds, I do have a lot of medical problems, with MS being one and back issues. All was fine until this last 2 months i was having problems taking my meds. I would start going through w/d in between doeses and would take more to stop that. I told the nurse a couple months ago and they gave me more meds, no LA meds (that's another story), I take oxyodone ir 30mg, I am prescribed about 10 a day and take 15. So i made an appt with the actual doctor and told him i'm eating up my meds and dont know how to stop it. i told him i wanted off all meds for a few months he was going to detox me with subutex but said i was on too high of a dose for it to work, so he switched me to methadone, the bottle is sitting here right in rfront of me and i'm petrified to take it, i woke up in horrible sweaty withdrawls and took my last oxycodones (what a horrible way to live, first pain now this), and i know in a couple hours i'll be starting w/d and will have to take the meth, my doc was sick as a dog when he was writing for me and being spacy so could someone tell me if this sounds normal? he wrote, and i see him in 2 weeks, 10mg meth pills 5 at a time, 4 times a day, but i think and i forgot the insturction sheet at the clinic, i htink i take 3 first dose..... is this too high? he gave me clonodine as well and visoril for sleep in case i w/d, i told him i was thinking of /c/t. will taking the methadone stop the w/d??? that's m y main question. i'm scared, i've read all the posts on in the beginning it's a dangerou drug, etc etc, i don't want to od. so tht would be about 120mg a day starting if i take 30mg 4x per day though i think i only want to take 3 times per day. what do i expect with this? i just want my old self back clear headed, will this make me feel more like that or worse or should i just go c/t, would i die jumping off this doese or should i take the methadoe, he put me on it and then once i'm stable we'll be doing a reduction to get m e to 30mg so i can swith to subutex for detox , he said if it works for pai n i can stay on it........i am so scared to take it.

If you lost the dosage instructions call the pharmacy.

Methadone is not a drug you want to guess the dosage or self medicate.

It builds up in your system as its got a long half life so you may be fine taking 4 the first day or 2nd day and by the third day you could wind up in the emergency room or worse.

really,im not kidding.if you take 30mg on day 1 and 30 on day 2,you still have 15mg in your system from day 1 which means 45mg and so on.
so if you are going to take it please verify the dosage from the pharmacist.

yes, it says take 5 pills every 4 hours, but the firt few days you take less, he just told me don't take more than 5, that seems so high to me......i would rather start lower until i can call ofice on monday. thanks for the response, do you think if i take just the 3 or 30mg it will stop w/d? thanks..

Wow, it seems to me that is a VERY HIGH doseage and to start no less.
I was on oxycontyn with vicodin for BT then switched to the duregisic patch with percocet for BT and after doing that for 5 yrs, I'm now on methadone with no bt meds and after 2 yrs I'm just now taking 10mg 4 times a day..
I n=know you don't want to go through wd but I really wouldn't suggest taking that much and still even after a few days building up to that much so quick.
If you can not get hold of your Dr, which you should try doing first then if not talk to your phamacist.

Thanks, he said my oxy of 30mg, 15 pills a day that this is the equivelent dose? does anybod y know? he said to go on sub, the best deto x med you have to be on equivelent of 30mg meth, and with my 350mg oxy daily that i was too high. does anyone know the equivelent of 350mg oxy to methadone?

Ok , so ...listen. Taking more drugs to get off drugs is BS if u ask me. I was a heroin addict for a good while, im talkin 200 bones a day just to feel normal and not go thru DTs. U need to kick without meds. It's gonna suck and u are gonna feel like your arms and legs are gona pop off and life is shite. But, in a month or so you will be over all that. The hardest part of kicking is the emotional struggle. If u need someone to talk to, let me know. :) u can do it!!

They re right...not a smart thing to start off with a guess. You shouldn't have to wait to see your doc to at least find out what he wanted you to take. If you were taking 30 mg oxycontin I don't think that a total of 200 mg a day is necessarily out of question but I would find out to be sure.
