I know I have a problem with an obsession with food, I admit that to myself. Techinically I don't know what the problem would be called. An intense need to lose weight? I don't know. Some would say anorexic because of my low calorie intake but I don't know. See, a lot of days I want to binge eat so bad, that I fill up liquids. Diet drinks, chicken broth, anything with no calories such as sugar free pepermint and whatnot. It's hard to live in a big lively italian family who loves to eat, and not have the urge to eat which is why I can't relate to being repulsed by food...but i can relate to being repulsed by yourself. Anyways, does this sound at all like any of you or someone you know? I sometimes drink so much diet stuff during the end of the day that my tummy blows up like a balloon! Its like I binge but not really because there is nothing in these things and I only do it sometimes. I am so freaking weird!

hi macy
you are not alone. first i cannot really say ou are that or this but that i do think you have alot of issues here which need to be addressed. did you know althougth an anoxic may be repolsed by food it does not mean that he/she is not starving and wishing to eat, i am sure many will be drawn to food but we just dont allow it to ourselfs partly becuase we fear the weight gain and want to loose weight badly enougth we will do anything, well that has been for me and others i know.
eating disorders can be quite mixed in defining which one you have, it is also not always directly directed at food alot of it is about how we feel and treat ourselves.
i had a mad addition to fzzy drinks and like you would drink so much i got additced to the stuff but you may be trying to fill yourself up
i think that becuase you have come to this site you are realsiing perhaps something isnt right.
if concerned be eally good to talk to someone, as well as us.
take care
thinking of you

everyone is different i know, but yet again i will say when i went for advice about this on that other message board, people were literally saying i was a 'wannabe anorexic' as if I WANTED to be anorexic! they were saying that because i filled up on diet foods that i was purposely making myself do these things. i was so pissed of you have no idea! i do not know why these people are even allowed on forums. but anyways, i know i have a problem i always knew that. but it was weird that i wont eat a lot yet fill up on diet drinks i have never heard of that before from anyone else. i was just looking for someone to relate to. thanks again for replying it makes me feel so much better knowing i am not alone in all of this.

Macy-
That is actually a very common behavior of anorexics. I am currently in an outpatient program and we are not allowed to have anything but a small bottle of water in the room with us b/c diet sodas and drinks can be triggering for people and so many people use them as fillers. It's easy (at least in the beginning) to fill up on diet sodas and liquids and not have to eat as much, but that only lasts a short while b/c your body will realize what you're doing and become so hungry for REAL food and REAL calories that it will force you to overeat or even binge to make up for it. You really don't want to get to that point.
If you find that you are not eating enough food and you are filling up on calorie-free liquids instead, you absolutely have a problem. That kind of intense fear of food and weight gain is not normal.
Seriously, try to get help before it gets out of control.

Wow, I did not know that. I assumed anorexic people didn't like the feeling of being full so never ate or drank a lot. Thanks SO much for the help and info, it is appreciated and I love that I can feel comfortable here and not attacked. Thanks.
Seriously, try to get help before it gets out of control.

I agree that this is definite anorexic behavior. It's absurd to say you're a "wannabe" and it's rude. I suggest getting help and talking about this now because according to your description, I would say you're at a high risk of developing bulimia later on. It's impossible to keep going on diet sodas and eventually you could end up acting on those urges to binge. And after starving your body (or filling it with nothing!) your cravings will only increase over time. Please, I cannot stress how important it is to catch very early.
