As an ovarian cancer survivor, I wanted to let you know what my symptoms were and eventual treatment. I had always had very regular periods but over the last five years my periods had become irregular and very heavy. The doctor wanted to do an endometrial biopsy but I put if off for a long time. I also had bloating and attributed both to perimenopause and stress in my life. I eventually consented to the biopsy which showed endometrial (uterine) cancer. I was a “basket case” when told the diagnosis. Surgery was scheduled for two weeks later. I had also noticed the urgency to urinate. It was not until during the hysterectomy that the ovarian cancer was found. So that was a double whammy. If I only had endometrial (uterine) cancer no chemo would have been necessary. But due to the ovarian cancer, I started chemo three weeks after surgery. I am writing this to tell all that you too can get through this if cancer is diagnosed. Yes I had my bad days, and yes I lost my hair but that was five years ago and all recent tests show nothing…I am doing great. I can certainly relate to everyone’s fear as I was once in your shoes but have made it through and am a stronger person because of it. Think positive thoughts and life with be just fine. Good luck to all!

I was diagnosed with a borderline ovarian cancer nearly two years ago, and the mass might not have been found in time were it not for the gallbladder attack I had a few weeks beforehand! Talk about a miracle from God!

The prognosis is excellent and I don't need chemo or radiation, but I still have to see my gyn-oncologist for 6-month checkups. My next one is in January. I can't wait to be able to see a regular gyn again. They didn't tell me when that will be.

I am very happy that everything worked out for you. When I was first informed of my illness I was a wreck, but I got through it. God bless you!

Becky,
Your story is very encouraging. My mom was diagnosed with ovarian cancer last Nov. Hers was stage 11b. It had not gone to any other organs or lymph nodes, thank God. Very similar symptoms as yours, with urgency to urinate and bloating. She also had the chemo, and did very well, or as well as expected. I was wondering, did it take you a while to recover from the effects of the chemo? My mom is older than you, she's a young 73 and in very good health aside from this. She developed numbness in her finger tips and feet (diagnosed as Neuropathy). Would you mind me asking what stage your ovarian ca was? How exciting that you have done so well, you are a true survivor! Nancy
