i was "diagnosed" with cfs about 12 years ago. lately i've put on some weight and i can't seem to take it off. my entire family went on the same diet and i'm the only one who isn't loosing. does anyone know if cfs can cause weight gain or make it difficult to loose weight?
Hypothyroidism can cause this kind of problem. Did you have your thyroid function checked before being diagnosed with CFS? If not, that'd be worth checking.

And when you do get your thyroid checked, be sure the TSH is within 0.3 to 3.0 (with more normal range actually being only up to 1.5) AND be sure your FREE T4 is in the upper half of normal! See the thyroid board for more info.
Hypothyroidism and CFIDS often go hand-in-hand.

Weight gain is not uncommon with CFIDS. The symptom of post exertional fatigue is one reason as it keeps many of us not able to exercise. Also, eating will often make those with CFIDS feel better because it supplys energy. Eating and not exercising can lead to weight gain. I walk as much as I am able and thus keep my weight in check. This, and minimizing carb intake, helps tremendously.

Thyroid scan will rule out some things (like thyroid tumors), and MAY show a nodular or multinodular goiter - which is more indicative of Hashimoto's. But, it may look fairly normal. This will NOT rule out CFIDS or some thyroid conditions (such as Hashimotos). (Just so you know).
Good luck. Will be interested in knowing your progression.
