View Full Version : Looking for RA Excercising Tips

Howdy, all...

I'm an eighteen-year-old female who was diagnosed with JRA at 14. My symptoms (then and now) are the basics: inflammation, tenderness, stiffness, and fluid build-up. The odd thing is that the Arthritis only exists in my left knee. Other joints get stiff from time to time (especially the knuckles), but my right knee is fine, which is abnormal for RA. My particular case, I've been told, is odd because not only is only one joint affected, but my arthritic knee has been swollen and tender since it first began to show. Also, looking at an X-Ray, there is much less degeneration of cartilage and bone than was expected.

I have gotten steroid shots a few times, but stopped having them because they stopped working. I take two Naproxen every night and morning, and use heat pads and ice packs from time to time. The pain is constant, but relatively minor, i.e. not enough to keep me in bed.

What I'm looking for is any information you all might have on excercising... I've read that it is not good to run or jog while inflammation is active, but mine always is... would it be a bad choice to start a jogging regimen? I'm anemic also, and am aware of the dangers of excercising too strenuously for too long.

Also, which excercises would be best to reduce stiffness in an affected knee?
