Hi everyone,

Has anyone else found after foot surgery that they seem to be doing really well in the getting around on crutches with almost no pain - then all of a sudden your really slow on the crutches and the pain is there?

- just that its been a lot warmer recently so im wondering if its just tiredness from the heat (which according to my collegue can also cause pain to increase - is this true?)

I don't know that becoming overtired from heat actually increases our pain, but becoming overtired somehow increases our vulnerability to it, or our perception of it. I think we "fight" pain, and try to push through it, but when we're tired, we don't have as much to give. Hard physical work in the heat will tire us more quickly, but also contributes to dehydration, fluid retention, swelling, none of which are good. Let us be careful, and rest when we need to, and make sure to drink lots of extra water!!! I don't know how much water you drink, but if you're feeling sluggish, try some fruit juice or a banana, and a big glass of water. I have gotten so bad the last few weeks that my normal 2x 20 oz water bottles are not enough, and I start scoping out for water sources the moment I get where I'm going! Kim
