Kenai 07-25-2006, 05:46 PM Im 22 years old with Carcinoid tumors and was wondering if there are others in my age group to talk to. Sponsor shnswms 07-25-2006, 11:11 PM Hi, I don't have cancer but there are plenty of people here you can talk to. Where are your tumors located? We're always here ready to talk to anyone who needs a friend. Kenai 07-26-2006, 11:14 AM located on my liver now, they were on my stomach, pancreas and part of my intestine until they removed half of each and 9" of intestine. Still on my liver but I am flying to seattle next wed. for treatment to get 2 of the tumors. 2 more will still exsist after that though =\ shnswms 07-26-2006, 04:16 PM aren't carcinoid tumors in the stomach pretty slow growing? Kenai 07-26-2006, 04:49 PM Correct. It took them 18 years to find them. I had symptoms since I was 14 but everybody thought I was just pretending to be sick so I didnt have to goto school. Silly parents  shnswms 07-27-2006, 02:46 PM Well I wish you the best with your upcoming surgery. Keep in touch and let us know how it goes. I will be praying for you and sending good thoughts your way. DJW 07-28-2006, 11:10 PM When I was in Tulsa at the Cancer Treatment Center America earlier this month, I met a 22 yr old young woman with Liver cancer. She was undergoing chemo to get rid of cancer that had spread to a lymph node next to her liver and the tumor in her liver. She wanted to get onto the liver donor recipient registry but couldn't if the cancer spread to her lymph nodes... She was the youngest patient I saw at the center - though I met the Mom of a 19 yr old there. The young woman I met (22 yr old - I'll call her Lynn) is a fighter! She lost a lot of weight since her diagnosis and looked quite thin and muscular. She was jaundiced when I first got there but her color came back after a few days.:) Boy! Did she giver her dad a bad time! But she told me she was so glad he was there with her! She said he made her fight for her life!;) Where her mom would just do everything for her. She was given only a few weeks to live by her doctors at home - before she found the Cancer Treatment Centers of America. She had been at the center for about 2 months when I got there and was very much alive! I go back to the center next week for surgery and she is due to come back for more chemo about that time. I hope to see her then. I will tell her about these boards and your post! Kenai 07-29-2006, 04:32 PM Yes, please do. It would be very nice to talk to somebody my age in the same situation. Thank you. growla 07-31-2006, 01:37 PM Kenai, I am not as young as you are, I am 31 now. I had a carcinoid tumor in my appenidx 2 years ago. All should be good now, keeping up the faith. My mother is currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer, so I will be on the lookout for that as well. I found some really good places to find information on Carcinoid. There are less places I guess because of the not so commoness of them. But if you look, you can find..I wish you all the best of luck and health! Keep us posted;) growla dyana 07-31-2006, 02:09 PM I don't have cancer but my 27 year old daughter does. Liposarcoma. Good luck, Dyana moderator2 07-31-2006, 02:11 PM Please read and follow the posting rules. Kenai 08-04-2006, 02:59 PM Well I went for treatment and they discovered that I have 11 tumors on my liver so now RFA treatment is not available to me. What a sad day =( DJW 08-04-2006, 06:51 PM (((kenai))) I'm so sorry that they found more tumors. I know it seems rough right now but don't let it get you down too much! And NEVER let your doctors stop trying to beat this thing. If Seattle can't help you, try another cancer treatment center. Some will pay to fly you to their centers for treatment. There are many other treatments available today. Tomotherapy, Brachytherapy, fraction dosed chemo, new surgical techniques! Even naturopathic and nutritional therapy to go along with the more conventional therapies that they are finding add to and increase the response rates. Please know that you have many friends here reading and following your posts! We are praying for you! :) Hang in there! Kenai 08-04-2006, 08:31 PM Virgina Mason is a great hospital with lots of different options. They just can not do anything until they confirm the growth rate in 3 months. Ive been fighting for 5 years now, got a long road to go. Glad I found these boards though. Thank you. DJW 08-04-2006, 11:38 PM Kenai, Virginia Mason is a great hospital! :) I used to have a doctor who worked out of there and my mother finally got answers to her medical symptoms there after other hospitals couldn't figure them out! (I am in Washington State) ;) You have a good attitude and it sounds like a lot of patience.. I'll wait to hear your next update! FHC 08-05-2006, 12:52 AM Kenai, I was just browsing the web and came across your post. You're not the only one out there. I myself am 18, and have been fighting Hepatocellular Carcinoma (Liver Cancer) for almost four years. I've had a tumor the size of a softball, metastatic nodes in all but one lobe of both lungs, and am now batteling a recurrance in my Liver. Still fighting it tooth and nail, though. It's never easy to deal with, but I'm glad to see you have a good attitute about it. If you need anything I'm always open to questions. Just knowing someone out there might be going through some of the same things as I am helps. I wish you the best of luck. Mercyrp 08-07-2006, 11:52 PM I am so sorry you have to go through this. I will pray for you and please, keep posting your questions and thoughts. We are here to listen. |
