Very confused: H has currently been taken off antidepressant due to violent nightmares and put on Namenda (no diagnosis). He's very sleepy all the time, seems extremely depressed and so argumentative. It's almost a month before next scheduled Dr appt, but I'm worried sick! He has lost all interest in job, looks for excuses not to address business, no interest in anything at all, vacant expression. Please reply, any input is appreciated.

Hi there,
Goodness, who put him on Namenda, without an official dementia diagnosis? It sounds like it could be depression, even with the being argumentative. Not being interested, not looking at business/job etc. could be depression too, and/or could maybe be dementia-related. Did he fall and/or hit his head any time recently?
My dad had Alzheimer's. He just passed away Saturday finally, after living with it for hmmmm, seven years. He was doing pretty well until recently, and then things went really quickly. It wasn't a bad thing, for his situation. Your dh sounds considerably younger however.
If you're near a university hospital at all, you might want to see if they do any kind of testing etc. A month with him being in this state of mind doesn't sound real good. Not for him, and surely not for you.
Oh, check and see if there is an Alzheimer's Association near you. They may have referrals to docs and such that may be of help.

Thanks for the input. Dr took him off Namenda yesterday and put him on Lexapro, based on my phone report of him sleepy all the time and deep depression. It's really scary situtation and now this change in meds will take weeks to be able to tell if it will bring any improvement. At least it tells me that maybe he thinks its more likely depression than AD. Either way I have my hands full and right now, don't know which way to turn.
