LieutenantFrost 10-16-2003, 12:08 AM Is there anyone out there who has suffered from a H Pylori infection? what are some of the symptoms? How did it effect you on a daily basis? thanks Sponsor Canyondweller 10-16-2003, 12:18 AM The symptoms vary and sometimes there are none at all since a great many people have the bacteria and it never causes any problem. It can be pain, bleeding from ulcers, bloating, gas, acid reflux, polyps, etc. There are some that believe that unless you have symptoms that it should be left alone. Other feel the opposite. It is anyone's guess. I understand the breath test is the most accurate to diagnose it though but has to be done with certain guidelines. actudan 10-16-2003, 09:19 AM Like the other poster said, you may have symptoms or not. Many people carry the bacteria and never no it. A lot of cases are discovered via autopsy when death is caused by something else. Anyway, if you do have h-pylori and and it starts causing problems, you have to get it checked out. It usually easily treatable with a combination of antibiotics. H-pylori trouble can cause ulcers, indigestion, bloating, gas, ... You can test for the bacteria through an endoscope, blood test and a breath test. If you suspect that is what you have, go see your doctor. Good luck! suzyshop1 10-17-2003, 12:18 AM I had h.pylori the doc discovered i had it after doing and endoscopy and biopsy. The only symptom i was havng at the time was a gnawing burning pain underneath my breastbone on the right side.I did the antibiotic thing but when it was done i still had the same symptoms. So now there going to do other tests.I know that h.pylori can cause some symptoms but you can also carry the infection sometimes a very long time. Some ppl will develope symptoms which can lead to an ulcer,or gastritis. Some wont show any symptoms. When i had an endoscopy done they also found i had and inflamed esophagus and stomach.Hope this helps. ------------------ Canyondweller 10-19-2003, 01:19 AM What other tests are they going to do? I am having the same experience. Same symptoms as before the antibiotics. Did you have another endo? breath test? I am due for breath test next week. Had to wait a few weeks. I bet it will be negative. My Dr. says he will try something different but I don't want to take any more meds flying blind. Please let me know what you Dr. is planning when you find out. suzyshop1 10-19-2003, 02:57 AM Canyondweller after the antibiotics they did another blood test. The doc didnt want to hear from me that i think i still had it. I read somewhere that a blood test is not too reliable after a course of antibiotics.Especially for me because when i was first diagnosed with it i had a blood test turn out negative. So i got a new gastro doc,im scheduled for a hida scan monday. Next week after that for a test called sbft something checked on the paper next to fluoroscopy,Have no idea what that test entails yet.Hope this helps .I will post my results soon as i find out anything.Take care ------------------ Saraly 10-19-2003, 03:19 PM I was diagnosed with H Pylori last month. I was being treated for gerd, bloating, gassiness and stomach pain. I had an endoscopy that showed gastitis, a hernia and polyps. The polyps were removed and biopsies were taken from different parts of my stomach. Visually the doctor saw nothing remarkable. I went for my two week check up and he had the hospital fax over the pathology report. It showed H Pylori and ulcer cells. He gave me Prevpac to take for two weeks. The therapy was unpleasant but not horrible. In 3 months I will have a breath test to see if the bacteria is still present; if it is the Prevpac will have to be repeated. He said the H Pylori must be eradicated because it is a risk factor for stomach cancer. Once you have H Pylori, even if it's killed, you will always have antibodies to it in your blood so the blood test isn't accurate. The breath test is supposed to be very accurate. |
