My Dad just went in for Bypass surgery yesterday. He was brought back in because he was bleeding from somewhere they opened him back up and managed to get the bleeding "stopped"(after 6 units of blood were put back into him). As of last night he still had a lot of drainage. Then at 2 in the morning they said his kindeys stopped...but started working better by 10 but not fully functional. My Family is going crazy and the doctors are doing a dance around all of our questions. Some of the nurses are saying its normal..some are kind of saying well it happens SOMETIMES. Does anyone know if these are normal symptoms or what? Oh he is also saying he can't feel his hands. PLEASE HELP..:dizzy:

Katharina,
So sorry to hear about your father.
First off, the surgeon botched the operation and the bleeding from "somewhere" was an improperly stiched arterial shunt.
I don't know WHY his kidneys shut down but it is deadly serious.
Any nurses who tell you ANY of this is normal is a liar. The doctors are avoiding telling you anything because their choices involve lying or admitting malpractice.
Contact a lawyer immediately. It's what I'd do.
I hope your father recovers.
I don't know why your father's hand are numb other than to consider how horrific it must be to the nerves of the chest area to have a ribcage sawed opened, wired closed, and then be cut open again.

Thank you Lenin for your advice, my parents I believe are going to talk to a lawyer. Sorry I didn't get back sooner its been hectic. They released him from the hospital on Sunday (7/30) and he seems to be doing ok. They said his blood sugar is still high but his kidneys are almos back up to 100% so once they are the sugar should come down. However now he is having crazy mood swings. He will be laughing once second then burst into tears, and if you try to comfort him he screams his head off. My Mom said she talked to the Doctor and that he said that is perfectly normal. I don't recall anyone else in my family who have had a quadrouple bypass and a triple doing that at all. Is this normal or something else we now have to worry about?

That is not normal behavior. Something is causing him to have serious mood swings like that. Since the doctor said it was "normal" then he should be able to answer why that is normal. What is causing him to act that way. Ask why that is happening. You need real answers. "It's normal" isn't a very educational answer about your dad. Your obviously worried and information will help you. Keep asking. (you could have your mom call the doctor's office and talk to the nurse to try to push for answers)
