Crew...

Hello everyone.

'Bout 30 years ago, I wrecked my right knee in a motorcycle accident. I've been taking good care of it ever since; & for my age (54)...ain't so bad.

Now...in the past 6 months or so...my left knee has decided to go completely south. The pain in the joint is tremendous at times; & walking has become very difficult. A few times...it's even given out on me & almost let me fall.

So I went to the pharmacy last night to pick up a Glucosamine/Chondroitin mix; & they had a supplement that also contained MSM & Gelatine.

Took a pill w/ dinner last nite; & it made me slightly nauseous...so I'm wondering. Do I really need the MSM? Do I really need the Gelatine? What substance in the supplement would tend to make one nauseous?

Thanks,

mark4man

Hello,

First of all with the symptoms that are happening to your knee you need to see a orthopedic surgeon. I would suggest an MRI too. If it comes back pos w/ OA then seek out a good Rheumatologist. This all takes time to get in & see these Dr's. So in the meantime the RICE method will help reduce swelling & inflammation....Rest when possible, Ice the knee (ice pack or cold Gel pack, ice in a towl), Compression (wrap knee with a bandage in between icing it- not too tight),Elevate your knee above your heart. Try & do this several times a day about 15 min.

I don't know which made you nauseous, the MSM or the gelatin. Taking MSN does not do that to me. I've never taken the Gelatin. I make sure I get 1500 mg of MSM. I've heard for years that if a person has arthritis they need the MSM. MSM is basically a sulfur which helps nourish the production of collagen & other connective tissues.
I've tried the Glucosamin/Chondroitin without the MSN in it & I discovered I did hurt more (I'm 45). This is my personal experience. I've also learned with my advanced OA of my knees & low back I must take 3000 mg of just Glucosamin. My Rheumie is very stern about that. I made sure I found the one that had the MSM in it....lol.

You could try just the MSM in the Glucosamin/Chondroitin & see if it still makes you feel sick...and omit the Gelatin & see what happens.

Good luck!

DITTO. I highly agree with everything Rose4evver advised above.
You seriously need to see a Dr about that knee.

About the pills.. I don't take the specific brand you are taking but I do take one that has the MSM. They do seem to cut my osteoarthritis pain in my knees.
