View Full Version : Worried: Chest pain

I have been experiencing a mild intermittent pain in my chest for some weeks, even months now and have decided to have it examined. I'm getting increasingly scared and would be really grateful for any input.

It is a mild acute jabbing pain directly below my left nipple. It feels as if someone is prodding their finger hard into my chest and seems to come on when I am most stressed and tired.

A little background: I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, for anyone who knows what that is. I was originally diagnosed with Marfan Syndrome. I have Chronic Fatigue and sleep apnea (which I understand is not good for the heart). I am 40 and male, and live in the UK. I'm very tall and a little overweight, but not much.

I am beginning to suspect that I may have angina. I have been holding back from seeing my GP as I was due to have a routine Echocardiogram, which I had today. The technician said there was nothing remarkable expcept for mild bowing of the mitral flap, if i understood correctly.

I have always been very concerned about my heart because of Marfan's/EDS and a couple of times I thought I was having a heart attack and called 999 but it was found there was nothing wrong. They wewre out down to panic attacks. I get palpitations and sometimes shortness of breath - all kinds of weird breathing stuff, especially on hot sultry nights like this. I have had a lot of stress in my life. I put the breathing weirdness down to panic biochmesitry.

Does anyone have any thoughts on what I have said please? What tests should my doctor be running or is an Echo sufficient?

Enigma,

I had to look up EDS :D but since its major component is "loose joints" that readily cause pain.
Even before learning that, I was going to say that your chest pain really sounds more like it's coming from the chest wall rather than the heart.
After learning about Ehler's Danlos, I think that almost cinches it.

Lenin,

I'm really relieved you think that. I am still going to keep an eye on it but thanks for your answer.
