View Full Version : Back Pain from Accident

I was in a car accident back in February. I am a very physically fit person (in fact, aside from about 5 days at the gym, I am a competitive dancer...so I was in very good shape prior to the accident). Immediately after the accident, I felt okay, but then a day or two later, various pains occurred in my body - mostly in my back, neck and shoulder. When I tried to dance again a week later, I had horrible pain in my pectoral muscles. My body also started "cracking" where it never used to. I went to a chiropractor once but wasn't enthused. I decided to just take it easy for a while, and for a few months things seemed to go well.

In June, I started having problems with my back, neck and shoulder. It's debilitating as far as any sort of exercise goes, however, I can make it through the day at my job (office/computer). It seemed to go away when I relaxed my fitness regimen, but now it's back again after a month. Bad.

I really want to get back to my exercise regimen and my dance lessons and competitions. I'm just afraid that this pain is going to keep me from doing either for any length of time before it flares up again.

Is it possible that after all these months this is accident-related? I'm not sure if I should go and get x-rays or see a doctor or physical therapist. I've tried ibuprofen, but it usually knocks me out...but not the pain.

Suggestions?

A thousand times YES to your question! That is why accident claims are not settled for some time.. statute is 2 years on many states. I am a paralegal and we deal with tort (personal injury) cases from time to time.

You need to get proper medical attention, with xrays, mri, ctscans, etc.. to try and determine your injuries and possible relief/remedies. You can start with a regular MD and go from there, but an orhtopaedic that specializes in the back is the best choice.

I was very very fit as yourself prior to my back injury 3 years ago, moving heavy furniture out of my 3 level apartment.

I am now 14 weeks fused at L4/L5. I am also very med sensitive myself and the heavy hitting drugs are way to heavy for me. I take the more weak ones with pretty good results. And tylenol makes me very tired. So I know what you mean.

I hope you get some medical attention soon. Take care. Tammy:wave:
